Where: Camaiore – town of Albiano, place Albiano Castello
When: 1183 - XIV century circa
The castle of Albiano (whose name could derive from the Roman noble name Albianus = of Albius) is remembered in a parchment of the year 1183 together with the neighbor's men Orbicciano Castle, with which it was visually connected. From Albiano it was possible to control the Via Francigena and Passo del Lucese: this last one led to Garfagnana and Emilia.
The few ruins of the castle of Albiano are incorporated in the walls that support the current houses of the village. The castle village can be identified with the small inhabited nucleus still existing, located near a restaurant and the Villa Cenami - Spada.
No traces of the keep and tower have yet been found and there is no news on the historical events of this castle.
